Le Chavelier D'Eon

Le Chevalier D’Eon means D’Eon the Knight for the un-French people (Hehe). This is quite an interesting title for a Japanese anime program, right? But it only suits its name as this anime is loosely based from the historical French figure (be ready for his name) Charles-Geneviève-Louis-Auguste-André-Timothée Éon de Beaumont (now, breathe. LOL! Why they bothered to give him such a loooong name is beyond me). He’s name’s so long I almost forgot what I was trying to say. :-P

But let’s go back to the topic at hand. Le Chevalier D’Eon is loosely based on that historical person I shall not attempt to name again. It may be a bit hard to understand why the Japanese animators behind this program decided to animate the life of D’Eon considering there are a lot of Japanese figures they can use right? That way they could even retell their own history in a interesting way. But D’Eon has such an interesting character and lived in a quite interesting era that it seemed proper to base this anime from his life. There had even been accounts that during his lifetime, D”Eon lived half his life as a man and the remainder as a woman. He was even rumored to have claimed that he is physically a woman, although raised as a man. Talk about gender confusion much.

Anyway, the anime about him does not entirely focus about this gender confusion (I think. I have still yet to see this anime). Le Chevalier D’Eon focuses more on the French Revolution, during the reign of King Louis XV.

Fashion Meets Revolution – this is one of the taglines Animax uses to encourage anime enthusiasts to check out and watch Le Chevalier D’Eon. And it is true. Even though it was illustrated by Japanese animators, there is no hint of the characters being anime and all (you know, big eyes, small lips, and crazy-cute hairstyles). The characters all look real people (no offense) and are dressed in the French fashion known during the era of French revolution.

People who take fancy on Victorian-like clothes and French lifestyle and revolution are encouraged to watch this anime. The setting is clearly based on how the French people lived before and the accounts of history and the happenings during one of French’s most intriguing parts of history.

Learn all the beauty there is in mostly everything French-related.

P.S. I just sounded like an advertiser or something. Hehe! Anyway, I will surely be checking this anime out as it really sounds interesting. I have my fingers crossed that it turns out interesting for me as well. :-P
