My ParaKiss Experience

By aimee | June 3, 2009

Paradise Kiss

I never expected that I’d finish this anime soon, didn’t know it only had 12 episodes. Hehe. Anyway, I actually finished this a day or two after I posted the one before this. Okay, enough of that, point of the matter is I’ve finished it already. Yey! :D

On to my experience…

Whoa! That’s really all I can say about Paradise Kiss. Of course I’m kidding. Haha! But that was my initial reaction when things got a little too mature for the children’s eyes. I never thought that Paradise Kiss would hold such maturity and reality that it caught me off guard. It’s no wonder people who don’t really like to watch anime got interested in what Paradise Kiss offered, as it’s obviously not your typical anime. It offered a plot which adults would surely understand and be familiar with - love, lust, difficult decisions, sacrifice, pride - to name a few.

For someone like me who digs mostly animes with a comedic and light romance plot and where anything can happen (and I mean anything), this anime didn’t appeal to me much, at first. It was interesting, yes, but not too much for me. I didn’t like it that it was too serious and that George’s and Caroline’s relationship seems too complicated and adult. I’ve always believed that animes should make people feel happy and leave them LOLing and take them to out-of-this-world situations and places. But I guess that’s just me - I’d rather watch something that would make me laugh rather than let me feel complicated, all wrong, and leave me thinking about the complexities that are so much a part of life. But there’s no doubt that all the realities offered by Paradise Kiss are what made me finish it all the way to the end. And despite my initial hesitance and disinterest, I found myself liking its ending. It offered the harsh reality of people parting ways, but that it shouldn’t bring us down as there’s surely something greater to look forward to in the future. I also loved that it didn’t show who Caroline ended up with, if it’s still George or not, but that she ended up with someone better for sure. On George’s part, his character offers us the fact that talent may not bring us to where we thought it would lead us, but that doesn’t mean we can’t put it to good use.

It’s funny, I didn’t mention anything about the clothes. After all, it all started with the love of fashion. Anyway, need I say the clothes are uniquely fabulous? :)

Oh, and yeah, I so love that ParaKiss’ logo features a butterfly. :D
