My *awww* moment for Detective Conan

Hello, I’m back! I almost forgot I have this blog! Hehe! I’ve been really busy (read: deep in work) the past months and so I rarely have time to do anything - not even update myself on mangas I’m reading and animes I’m watching. Although I’m back, I can’t promise myself to update every now and then, work still occupies most of my time and the few free days I have in a week I spend resting. Pardon me for my long absence.

Anyway, I haven’t really been out of touch with the manga world. I try to read Detective Conan when I get the chance, although I still have a long way before I reach the latest chapters (670th) which have been uploaded at One Manga. Detective Conan’s cases and how Shinichi solves each case rarely suprise me as I already expect to be surprised but I must say I didn’t see this one coming. There was this chapeter entitled “The Other” where Conan has yet again solved another murder case - really no surprise there - but what’s caught me off guard is the motive behind the unexpected killing of the supposed-to-be-killer. The plot’s case revolves around the last will and testament of a rich guy who died. His family gathered in order to be present at the time the will was to be read as it’s a prerequisite to be present to have rightful claim to his inheritance. Anyway, the second wife of the deceased was supposed to be the killer, intending to kill her brother-in-law just so she’ll have bigger share of the inheritance but was killed by her supposed victim in pure act of self-defense. Now, the twist of the story lies in the unknown fact that the brother-in-law isn’t the real one, the real one happened to be already dead, but actually the bodyguard of the real brother’s son. You still with me so far? Hehe! Anyway, the old man was not paid to be the son’s bodyguard, he just did it out of pure respect and gratitude to the real borhter, who was his business associate in Brazil. The brother died of illness, leaving his only son alone, and so being a real good man, the fake brother brought the son under his own roof to take care of him. But threats to the brother’s life and telling him not to go to the announcement of the will started to come. Fearing that the life of the brother’s son will soon be in danger, he diguised himself as the brother and went back to Japan with the son, who diguised as his bodyguard. But why do it? For his sincere purpose of getting the attacks and threats himself and leaving the son protected from the brother’s greedy family and to know from whom the threats came from as well. True enough, attacks soon came which he gladly accepted just to protect the son. It was just unfortunate that he accidentally killed the seond wife out of self-defense. He willignly went to the police to be investigated and we never heard news after that. He had been so intent on protecting the son that he had not told him of the inheritance and about the family of his brother - preserving his ignorance just to be sure to put him out of harm’s way. Awww.

I know there have been a lot of murders done out of love already but I just have a soft spot for old men who look exceptionally sad but sincere and the fake brother looks like it. And of course, I was touched by the pure sincerity of his actions and the ignorance of the son who was happy enough to know that his tutor (the fake brother’s relationship with him) will still be back.

I sure hope there are still stories like this in the following chapters. But more than that, I hope to finally get to the point where Ran discovers Conan’s real identity and he discovers the solution to turn him back into his teenage self again, and this time sove cases as Shinichi and not as Conan. When will these happen anyway? Oh please tell me all these will occur. Or I’ll stop reading this instant. Haha! Kidding! :-D
